As mentioned on the previous page, an entomophagy diet has the power to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and conserve natural resources. In fact, however, it has been suggested that an insect diet may also protect our environment in many other ways.
One example is the use of human leftovers as food for insects.
According to a 2019 FAO (World Food and Agriculture Organization) study, 1/3 of the food produced in the world is wasted. Of course, this includes food that must be discarded, but it also includes a lot of "unsold" or "leftover" food that can still be eaten! If these foods are used as feed for insect farming, and insects become our protein source, we can realize a smarter and more sustainable society.
Such ways of utilizing insects are being considered all over the world.
