The Risk of Blood Donation

When you donate blood, you are not guaranteed to be safe. You will be handed a leaflet from donation room in advance and will be explained.

Health hazard

  • Vagal syncope (VVR) ... Feeling sick, pallor, convulsions, vomiting, fainting, etc.
  • Nerve damage ... There is pain or numbness like running electricity
  • Subcutaneous bleeding and hematoma ... If puncture at the time of blood collection and compression (hemostatic) after blood collection are not performed properly, bleeding spots and hematomas may occur.
  • Pain in the puncture area ... Pain around the puncture area

Very rarely, in response to sodium citrate used during component blood sampling, it causes nausea, vomiting, spasm, RSD (reflex sympathetic atrophy), and occurs after damage to nerves, bones, and soft tissues. Pain may develop.

Most symptoms improve in 2 to 4 weeks, but some people may become more severe.

In the unlikely event that you need to see a medical institution or receive medical treatment, there is a "blood donor health damage relief system", and medical expenses (some of which cover expenses other than medical expenses) are paid.

We collect blood carefully and safely so that the above symptoms do not occur, but we must cooperate in blood donation with the understanding that unavoidable events may occur.

Blood donation risk

Donating blood is not an obligation, it is a volunteer in good faith. It is important to feel that there are people who can be saved by their own blood, but I would like you to think about whether or not to do it after you know the risks properly.
