Interview to Blood Donation Room

The day after the blood donation experience, the Kashiwa Blood Donation Room responded to our interview. Thank you for your cooperation.

How many people donate blood per day?

It varies from day to day, but the average number of people in Chiba prefecture is around 620, and in the Kashiwa Blood Donation Room, it is around 70.

How many people donate blood per week?

There are some differences depending on the season, but the average number is around 4,300 in Chiba prefecture.

What day of the week do the most blood donors come?

After all, many people come to our office on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays.

Which age group has the highest proportion of blood donors?

In the first year of Heisei (1989), 20-29 years old accounted for 26.6%, which was the highest, but in the first year of Reiwa (2019), 50-69 years old was the most, accounting for 35.6%.
As you get younger, the rate of donating blood decreases.

Which blood type is likely to be deficient?

Depending on the type of blood product, red blood cell products often require type O throughout the year.

Which is more likely to be deficient in plasma or platelets in component blood donation?

Platelets are only valid for 4 days and are always needed.

Why is it recommended to make a reservation before donating blood?

We try to make sure that the blood donors come to our office at a fixed time so as not to keep them waiting as much as possible. In addition, by making a reservation, you can know the type and amount of blood that can be collected in advance, so you can collect blood to some extent according to the demand from medical institutions.

What made you decide to do a blood donation job?

I think there are various reasons depending on the person, but it seems that many staff members chose the Japanese Red Cross Society or the Blood Center because they wanted to get a job that would be useful to them.

What kind of work do you have in the blood donation room?

In the room, there are clerical staff who accept and treat blood donations (handing out blood donation cards and watching if there are any people who are not feeling well after donating blood), nurses who collect blood, and donate blood. A doctor is working to ask if you can donate.

Where does the cost of running a blood donation room come from?

It is mainly operated by the revenue from supplying blood products for blood transfusion. In addition, some subsidies from local governments and donations from individuals and groups are also included.
