Umeboshi - Pickled Plums -

History

@The ume tree came from China in the Nara era. The effect is introduced
in a book written in the Heian era. An unripe fruit of a plum was drew off
and smashed, and it was used as medicine of diarrhea and a swelling.
It is famous even to stick on the temples as a specific medicine of a
headache.
@In a temple belonging to the Zen sect, meat and fish weren't eaten,
and umeboshi was considered to be a side dish of the meal.
@The samurai carried it in the case of round. Now umeboshi is still eaten
by putting in a rice ball, and cooked in many ways.
