Temperature and humidity
What is the image of high humidity in foreign countries?
The color-coded map shows the average temperature of warmest month in capital cities around the world.
In this map, the average temperatures of Europe, a part of North and South America, Australia, and New Zealand, are blue or green. It means the temperature there is low by 4~15℃.
Those who live in those countries do not experience the high temperature as Japanese people do.
On the other hand, countries around the equator like Southeast Asia and Africa, are red or yellow. Those who live there experience similar temperature as Japanese do.
The color-coded map shows the difference of average temperature of warmest month between capital cities around the world and Japan.
In this map, the countries which were blue or green are different from Japan. It should be noticed that there is a huge difference between Europe and Japan. Therefore, it may be difficult for European people
to adapt to Japan’s temperature.
Most of the countries with higher temperature than Japan are around equator. We assume that most people may not be able to adapt to Japan’s temperature and their risk of becoming heatstroke can be even higher than Japanese.
Finally, we analyzed humidity. Humidity is one of the causes of heatstroke. In Japan we use WBGT as index of heatstroke. WBGT emphasizes humidity as well.
The color-coded map shows the absolute humidity (*) of warmest month warmest month in capital cities around the world.
(*:the amount of water vapor in 1m3)
This map shows that Europe is lower in both humidity and temperature. Regarding to the Mediterranean coast, the temperature is similar to Japan, but it has one of the lowest absolute humidity value areas in the world. People living there may easily adapt to Japan’s temperature but not humidity. Countries in such areas are Indochina Peninsula, desert of Saudi Arabia, Iran, and Egypt.
High humidity also leads to heatstroke. We need to know the difference of weather between your country and Japan and understand what factor you should pay attention to.
