They confirm the students’ German skills, and if there are any students who have difficulty, they can get a special class before entrance into a school.
- This is the case in Lower Saxony (Based on the constitution, they have a regulation to decide the measures regarding education by each states)
- It is obliged to get these German classes to prepare for enrollment
- Students are also able to take additional support for 20 hours per week if they are 1st-4th grade, 30 hours if they are 5th-10th grade
Not only the kids, but also people whose German skills are inadequate are obliged to take classes
- Settled by the “Residents Act (AufenthG)” which was revisioned in 2007
- These obliged classes are called “Integration course (Integrationskurs) ”, and there, students are able to learn Germany, knowledge relating to Germany’s law and order, culture, and history
- It is carried out in accordance with the participant’s situation
- Person taking these classes owes 1 euro per class (People who have difficulty paying is exempted)
Support by deploying assistant teacher for Japanese language guidance who can speak their mother language to elementary and middle school
- The city deployed 4 teachers for 6 elementary and middle school in 2019, and 6 teachers for 7 elementary and middle school in 2020
- The problem is that since the international students’ country to be on register become more varied, it is getting more difficult to secure the instructor who can speak their mother language.
(Quoted from Measure I-5 Improvement of the support for students who need Japanese language guidance)
(Quoted from Shiroi city Gender equality promotion action plan Specific approaches <2016-2020>(Page 26))
In the future, there is a risk of not being able to deal with all of the children who need support if the number of these kids increase even more
- There is a limit in the number of assistant teachers and volunteers
- There is also another risk of not having any assistant teacher or volunteer in the region with fewer students who need Japanese support than Shiroi city
Difficult to increase the number of time for Japanese language guidance
- When it comes to supporting Japanese in a supplementary class, we have to consider the balance with the class at school.
Make it possible so that they can learn Japanese before enrolling school instead of taking supplementary class
- If support can be provided before enrollment, it is expected that learning and school life will be smoother.
