Questionnaires

We conducted a questionnaire survey and got survey responses from people not only in Japan but also in foreign countries.

By comparing differences of consumers between Japan and other countries,we could recognize

Japanese current position in food loss issues.

Here,we will show you our consideration of the questionnaire survey!

少しでも多くの情報を集め今後の探究活動に生かしたいと考えているので、是非アンケートにご協力ください。

(English)
If you are a foreigner, or have a experience living abroad we would appreciate if you would answer some simple questions.

We had a lot of replies
from peoplearound the world

Q1.How often do you throwaway left over food?

In Japan, there is “Mottainai” culture,so a lot of people said they don't throw away foods. This culture plays a very important role to save food loss so 2020 Olympics・Paralympics and2030 SDGs will be a good opportunity to spread this culture.

Q2.Can you explain the difference between best before date and expiry date

Maybe the people who answered this survey had high awareness toward food loss. I hope most of the people can explain this difference and not throwing away foods that are eatable.

Q3.Do you look at the best before date when you buy food?

This tells that regardless to their nationality, people are highly aware how long the product last. However especially in Japan because of the 1/3rule many foods are disposed.
If you can please take food products without caring too much because it will be safe and log before expiry.

Q4.Do you know what a FoodBank is?

This shows that Japanese has less awareness and less knowledge of food bank. We think this is because there aren’t so many food banks in Japan.
There are details written in this website about the small scale of food banks in Japan.

Q5.Do you feel uncomfortable taking home your left over food when eating out?

This shows that Japanese feels uneasy and uncomfortable taking out food because they tend to be very sensitive about sanitation. However if you be careful and treat the food properly they wont be a problem. This high awareness is important but at the same time it causes food loss.

Q6.Do you think Japan isn’t working on Foodloss enough compared to other developed countries?

It is obvious that everybody thinks that Japan is behind from other countries. We should make a move and spread the knowledge to reduce food loss and show the world that we are not behind and doing our best to reduce food loss at the 2020 Olympics・Paralympics and the 2030 SDGs.
