In Japan, food sufficiency rate is very low and we have a lot of
task about food.
Through our research we thought about the main reason of the food loss in japan.
First it is that each house through away food which is the amount of one bowl of rice. Japanese
are particularly conscious about hygiene so they through away foods like “Its not past the best
before date but never mind let's just throw it away” or “its not past the expiry date but let's just
throw it away just incase”.
Its not just this reason. Japanese people are also sensitive about the looks of the food.
This problem is not just about the consumers but it affects the food company as well. The
reason there are strict rules to produce foods and that is because of the sensitiveness of the
consumers. Companies always has to meet the needs of the consumers.
Companies has been trying to contribute to the environment through SCR etc. That includes food
loss decrease.
It is our time, consumers time to change and make some movement to reduce food companies
food loss. 2020 Olympics and SDGS(2030) is coming up. We should set that as a goal and make a
change to the food loss situation now.
