About same sex partnership

Same sex marriage is not allowed in Japan. However, there is "same sex partnership" as marital relationship which is different from marriage. There is no legally binding force in the same-sex partnership, but in Japan it has been introduced in nine municipalities, with the aim of eliminating prejudice and discrimination against homosexual couples and LGBT as much as possible.
If homosexual partners who satisfy certain conditions apply, the municipalities will notarize homogeneity partnership.
