Interview with Generation Z

In the previous pages, you have learned that the problem of declining youth voter turnout is occurring.
So, how do young people who have the right to vote feel about this current situation?

・Male in his 20s
・Worked at a bank

In recent years, there has been a problem of declining voter turnout among young people.
What do you think about this situation from a "youth" point of view?

It is not good for the country or the individual to choose not to vote, because it determines the future of the country and himself/herself.

What do you think needs to get young people to vote?

I think school should start teaching classes from a young age ( junior high school and high school) to make young people aware of the importance of elections and their interest in the process.

One of the reasons for the decline in voter turnout is that people say that going to the polls is a hassle.
Therefore, are there any new places you would like to established as polling places?

It would be good to establish them at convenience stores, train stations, and supermarkets.

What do you look for when choosing which candidate to vote for?

I read the newspaper and choose candidates.

Do you think that having your favorite party or politician stand as a candidate motivates you to vote?

If people have a favorite party or politician, it will motivate you.
If there were politicians like "Oshi" in the form of idols, I think it would change the motivation for elections.

Our Thought and Feelings

There was a comment that in order to get young people to vote, they should learn about it as part of their school education. This is something that Sweden and Germany, which have very high voter turnout, are working on, and I believe that if this system is promoted, interest in elections will increase.
The woman on the previous page also expressed a sense of crisis about the declining voter turnout among young people, and also found that having a "Oshi" or "Oshi-Party" could be a kind of motivation.
