Society is undergoing rapid change due to technological advances.Revise the content of education in order to develop human resources who can adapt to such an environment. This is called educational reform.
There are three main reforms in the 2020 education reform.

New course of study
The new course of study has been organized, focusing on the following three points.・The power and humanity toward learning to apply what we have learned to society and life
・Knowledge and skills to live and work in actual society and life
・Thinking ability, expressive ability, and judgment ability that can respond to unknown situations
For this reason, many places are incorporating "independent, interactive, and deep learning (*active learning)" into their lessons.

University entrance examination reform
There are two major changes to the university entrance exam reform: ①university entrance exam and ②individual university exam.- ①University admission common test ❶Implementation of a common test for university admission
- ②Individual university exam ❶Introduction of "multifaceted, comprehensive evaluation"
The National Center Test for University Admissions will be abolished at the end of January 2020 (2019), and will be transferred to the new test "University Admission Common Test" from 2020 (January 2009).
❷Introduction of "descriptive question"
In the center test so far, it was a mark sheet type. However, with the introduction of descriptive questions, not only can you choose the answer from the options, but you can also summarize your thoughts on your own and make statements based on the grounds so that the other person can understand.
You can now evaluate your strength. For this reason, descriptive formulas are introduced in some countries and numbers in the university entrance common test.
In the general selection of each university, a statement of reason for aspiration, an essay, an interview, etc. are required. In addition, evaluation of academic ability will be emphasized in school-recommended selection and comprehensive selection.
❷Emphasis on "Survey Report = School Activities"
A survey form that describes school grades and extracurricular activities (club activities, committees, qualifications, volunteers, certification, etc.) is required regardless of the admission format.
English education reform
There are four major changes in English education.①Start of "foreign language activities" for 3rd and 4th graders
②Start of "English (subject)" for 5th and 6th graders
③English classes in junior high school are "basically conducted in English", and "ethics and expressions" are added in high school.

General external English exams, such as TOEFL, IELTS, and Eiken, aim to measure four English skills. Also, in the field of education, the development of four English skills is regarded as important.
Why are four English skills required in today's society?
That is to prepare for globalization at home and abroad.
Recently, I have come to see many foreigners all over Japan.
In this way, four English skills are indispensable for communicating with foreign visitors to Japan, even if you are in Japan.
→It was announced that the utilization of private qualifications and certification exams would be postponed. Therefore, in the university entrance test, the two skills of "reading and writing" are evaluated in the same way as the center test. However, in this way, English education begins at the elementary school stage, and even in an increasingly globalized society, it is required to acquire "usable English proficiency."
