1924 "Declaration on the Rights of the Child (Geneva Declaration)"
Reflecting back on the threat to children's lives and rights during World War I, international interest in child protection and child welfare grew rapidly, and in 1924 the General Assembly of the League of Nations adopted the “Geneva Declaration on the Rights of the Child.” This was the first declaration of the rights of the child by the League of Nations. The Declaration stipulated that humankind, that is, people of all nations, have a duty to do their best for children and that all necessary efforts should be made for their physical and mental development, that it is the responsibility of adults to protect children from exploitation and to support their independence, and that education should be provided to develop children's abilities.
