The purpose of this Article is to protect refugees and children who may become refugees. If a child is recognized as a refugee, the State is obligated to protect the child, regardless of whether or not he or she has a family. If the child has been separated from his or her family, the State, in cooperation with the UN, will search for the child's family. If the child's family cannot be found, the child has the right to receive care in an appropriate institution, adoption, or foster care, as provided for in Article 20.
