1939 World War II

World War II was a world war that took place between 1939 and 1945 between the Axis Powers, including Japan, Germany, and Italy, and the Allied Powers, including the U.S., Great Britain, France, and the Soviet Union. 1943 saw the surrender of Italy, 1945 of Germany, and Japan, ending with the Axis powers' defeat. During the war, the human rights of people around the world were threatened by the Holocaust by Nazi Germany, the Japanese invasion of Asia, and the use of atomic bombs against Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

After the war, the United Nations was established out of reflection on these events and a determination to end the devastation caused by war. In the course of the construction of the postwar international order based on the United Nations, there was a growing awareness of the need to protect human rights worldwide, based on the reflection of the second world war that had been waged by mankind, putting the lives and human rights of people around the world at risk.
