The organization that is working on animal welfare in the EU is called the Council of Europe. The Council of Europe has enacted five different animal protection treaties.
Treaty of Amsterdam
In 1977 "Protocol on protection and welfare of animals " was established
The Convention defines an animal as a "sentient being". It also makes it a legal obligation for EU institutions to take measures to ensure animal welfare.
Pet Passport
In the EU, pets also have passports. This is required for travel within the EU and contains the identity of the owner, a photograph and description of the animal, the microchip number, rabies vaccination chart, and vaccination chart.
