Interview with junior highschool student who is dancing nippon buyo.
Kamomen
First is Ms. Senmuku Nishikawa. Thank you for your time. Please tell me the massage for young people, same as your generation.
Ms. Nishikawa
Nippon buyo is beautiful and nice thing. It’s necessary for my life, like an oxygen. I was dancing,
singing and playing instruments I didn’t notice clearly. I believe that traditional performing arts are inhered by master to pupil.
But, I sometimes think and worry this routine will stop at me. Some people say that the nippon-buyo is one of the endangered species,
and in the current situation audiences, people who learn it, stage sets, lights, costumes, wigs, kaoshi (makeup artist),
and instrument player of Japanese music are decreasing. In this situation, inheriting will cease. If you anxious about nippon-buyo
by this massage, please engage to inheriting traditional performing arts. Seeing, sing and play and dance are all good,
there’re many ways to enjoy nippon-buyo.
Kamomen
Why did you start dancing nippon-buyo?
Ms. Nishikawa
“People can’t do war with wearing kimonos. So in short, Japanese wearing kimonos is peaceful people...”.
This is the words remain in my heart from the living national treasure who I respect.
I’m glad to living with tabi, zori and Japanese clothes.
I chose the way to training to give traditional performing arts which is the treasure from the people in the
past to next generation. I take this destiny, privilege.
Kamomen
Let’s ask for boy. H, please tell me the massage for young people who are the same generation.
Mr.H
Perhaps, you have a formal image when you hear “nippon-buyo”. I want to show you the light part without difficult things.
There’re programs that you know well like “Tulips” and “soap bubble”. It’s very pretty to see small children are dancing.
And the other, “Yamanba” and “Hashibenkei”, These two have fighting scenes, and easy to understand and fun.
Nippon-buyo is play. There’re programs that children and elder can enjoy.
Please touch when you want to touch.
Kamomen
What is cause?
Mr.H
My parents is nippon-buyo dancer and started naturally.
Kamomen
Thank you for your time.
After the interview
In two massages, there are sense of crisis about the lack of successors and the heart that there are many programs that you
can understand easier, so they want you to watch programs. The people who is engaging with the world is increasing and they may
worry about when nippon-buyo ends. It is easy to understand the problem of the lack of successors by telling from the person who
is inhabiting tradition actually. I think we can have our confidence to traditional performing arts by this interview.
Ms. Senmuku Nishikawa and Mr. H, thank you very much.
