Global food waste

Currently, the world's population is said to be 7.95 billion, of which 1/10, or approximately 828 million, are suffering from hunger.
On the other hand, about 1.3 billion tons of food loss is generated in one year.
This is about one-third of the world's annual food production.

In response to this situation, various measures are being taken in countries.

Developed countries and developing countries

Did you know that there are big differences in the places and causes of food loss between developed and developing countries? In developed countries, more food loss occurs at the processing, distribution, and consumption stages than at the production stage.
Due to the high appearance quality standards for perishable products in the processing stage,
as well as the large number of displays and the wide variety of items, some products are not consumed.
Another reason is that there are many economically rich countries where consumers can afford to buy extra and throw it away if they don't need it.

On the other hand, in developing countries, a lot of food loss occurs at the production stage.
This is because the lack of harvesting technology can cause the food to rot even if it is produced, and the storage facilities at the store are not sufficient, so the food that arrives at the store may not last long.
In addition, the marketing system is inadequate, and the necessary amount of food is not distributed to the necessary places, resulting in surplus production and food loss.

Developed countries require both efforts on the part of retailers and producers
as well as efforts on the part of consumers.
Developing countries require intensive improvements, such as the development of infrastructure and the expansion of facilities, before food reaches consumers.
